Coolsculpting is a division of Allergan, a biotechnology firm, which manufactures and licenses different devices for cosmetic cream processes. The firm was started in 2021 and quickly raised funds in private financing before publicly going public in 2021. It was then acquired by Allergan in August of that year. Some of the top clients are the Make-up Artists Cosmetics Institute, S.C.O.P., and The Center for Medical Device Research and Development at University of California. There has been some bad press about the use of extreme cold temperatures on human skin; however, this side effect has been proven in clinical trials to be non-existent. Other forms of treatment can include Botox injections, photodynamic therapy, chemical peels, dermabrasion, microdermabrasion, laser therapy, cryosurgery, and IPL therapy. There have been very few adverse effects reported. It is recommended that Coolsculpting be considered for persons with mild to moderate facial lines and mild to moderate wrinkling of the skin.

The process begins with an initial consultation in which a plastic surgeon explains the process and the results of Coolsculpting. A patient is made aware of the recovery time involved in the procedure. The cool sculpted patient is then placed under general or localized anesthesia and a plastic surgeon cuts into the back of the patient’s head to remove the unwanted fat cells. The fat cells are then frozen and then transported to the treatment area. The entire procedure takes approximately two to three hours and the patient is usually in recovery after seven days.
